Overview of the Experience

Please give an overview of what your virtual experience involved:
5/5
The work experience involved various talks from solicitors and trainees covering a variety of topics like commercial law, CV tips, etc. Some of the sessions were interactive and the participants would go into smaller groups to discuss the task. There was also a hub on the virtual programme that included tasks that had to be completed independently.
To what extent did you enjoy your virtual experience?
4/5
I did really enjoy the experience, I expected to go into the sessions and be a bit bored due to past experiences with these type of things but some of the tasks set were really interesting, especially when I was able to talk to others on the programme as well.
How well organised was your virtual experience?
4/5
The experience was well organised; the forage platform it was run on was easy to navigate and the communication form the team helped us to find everything we needed to anyway. the days weren't too long and we were given breaks so it didn't feel like it dragged.
How much did your virtual experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
3/5
I was already quite set on law when I started the programme (being in year 13 and already applying to university) but it was very helpful to be able to talk with other people my age who had similar goals to mine and gain employees perspectives who had already been what I'm currently going through as well
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
2/5
i was not paid to partake in this experience which I think is fair because it was virtual so I could do it in the comfort of my own home and it benefitted me by providing me with experience and advice that I can use in the future as I want to go into law.

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your virtual experience?
4/5
The virtual experience taught me lots about the legal path, including steps to take whilst in sixth form, at university and in a future placement. The inclusion of presentation tasks and being able to experience something a trainee may do was extremely helpful in making me realise a future in law may be for me.

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
4/5
I felt like I learnt a lot about the atmosphere and values of Pinsent masons - especially from the talks with supervisors who were able to provide useful insight into what it is like to work at the firm and how it differs from others in terms of work-life balance, etc
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
3/5
There was not really a chance to connect with any of the actual Pinsent Masons employees but the programme did set up networking lunches where other participants could chat to each other which I thought was a good idea for future practice. However, I have taken other course where I was able to connect with the speakers on LinkedIn which could have been helpful here.

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend Pinsent Masons LLP to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Pinsent Masons because although the experience was virtual it was very efficient and kept me interested throughout the 4 days. I think its very useful for anyone thinking of taking a career in law, just to understand what life would be like once you are fully trained.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons LLP?
I had to find the Pinsent Masons work experience through my own research but I think once I found it, the application process was quite easy and it was months before the actual event so there was lots of time to prepare and the Early Talent Team email you every so often to make sure everything's ready. once you know you have the place, it's pretty much smooth sailing
