Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:

Over the week, we were presented too by a number of solicitors and trainee solicitors along with other key figures that covered lots of the roles within the law firm. We were also involved in group discussions and debates and were encouraged to enhance our communication and public speaking skills. To get an idea of what tasks are involved, we completed some realistic tasks such ask drafting legislation.
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?

I was really looking forward to this work experience and I wasn't disapointed! I loved the different skills that were covered throughout the week and the range of speakers that presented to us. It was the combination of these speakers that gave me a real insight into what lawyers actually do on a day to day basis.
How well organised was your work experience?

The communication from the Early Talnet Team could not have been better as their emails made it clear to me what I was doing throughout every step. For example, when my team suffered some technical difficulties in one of the tasks, the team at Pinsent Masons were quick to email us about an extra session they put on for us. All the presntations ran smoothly and stuck to the strict timetable we were provided with at the start of the week.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?

Before taking part in this work experience, I wasn't familiar with the different areas within law as well as the different routes into a law career. This increased contextual knowledge that I gained made me much more passionate about a law career and has made me want to do more research about it.

Skills Development
What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?

Communication skills were developed when in group discussions and I practised my public speaking abilities when arguing our side of a debate. When completing the realistic tasks, it required me to think critically about the situations we were provided with. The tasks also enhanced my research and writing skills, especially when drafting the legislation.
Company Culture
How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?

All the staff seemed really friendly and I felt very welcomed when asking them questions about their job. The staff really expressed a sense of fun as well, showing how much they enjoy their job. This really engaged me and made me research more about what Pinsent Masons has to offer. I will definitely remember Pinsent Masons as a place of interest when I come to apply to Training contracts in university.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?

There was lots of opportunities to talk to employees across the business which meant we could get a real insight into the environment at Pinsent Masons and meant we could ask questions to a variety of roles.
