Overview of the Experience

Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
5/5
There were several tasks and presentations throughout. The tasks and presentations were on a wide variety of things including different types of law that many do not normally think of. They used different platforms like forage, teams and Padlet to make it more engaging. We used breakout rooms and chat platforms to meet the guests, fellow students, etc.
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
4/5
I enjoyed the work experience a lot, especially the practical parts of it. These were when we were put into break out rooms in smaller groups. Normally I find these quite awkward especially when I don't know the people on them but it helps for me to engage more with other students and it didn't put me off.
How well organised was your work experience?
5/5
The work experience was very well organised. There were rarely questions asked by fellow students as everything had already been thought of by the creators and leaders of the work experience. Most of the sessions started on time and if things were not going to plan or you had questions, there were ways of getting help.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
5/5
It made me very confident in wanting to apply and go onto do law at university. I now know more about what my university degree will include, how it will be tested and even better what your opportunities are after university, it doesn't need to be law and that there are types of law you have never even thought about doing.
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
1/5
No I was not paid or reimbursed for completing the virtual work experience, nor were any other participants. I wanted to do it for my professional and personal goals and out of my own interests. I was not pressured or forced to do anything, it was your choice to do it.

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
5/5
I learned about different tasks that the different types of lawyers have to do. A trainee solicitor helped us to do tasks over teams. For example, a trainee solicitor helped my group by hearing our arguments in the Jaffa cake debate. He told us what parts of the debate to work on like considering the other sides possible arguments.

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
5/5
I had never heard about the law firm Pinsent Masons before applying, even at the start of the virtual work experience event I didn't know much. We heard about what it is like to work there by lots of people who told us their stories on how they started working there. We were also told about the environment and how everyone was so friendly and it felt like a big team. Some speakers had never met in person with the other ones but were still friendly to each other like they had physically worked with each other for years.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
5/5
Yes we were able to chat through many different ways. The organisers had created a virtual lunch meaning we were able to chat online during our lunch break to get to know each other. There was also a chat function on Forage that was constantly open meaning we could chat with the other participants.

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend Pinsent Masons LLP to a friend?
Yes
Why?
As there are not many other Law Firms that have virtual work experience. I was able to gain a lot from their work experience rather than just joining to get a certificate to say I have done it, I had this experience with other online work experiences which felt like a chore and was not engaging. I wanted to be involved in this as it engaged me and helped me learn more about what I needed to know.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons LLP?
Fill your application out as much as possible give loads of detail. If you are serious about wanting to learn more about law or go on to do it at university then this is a great virtual work experience to join. Use a word document to write your application then copy and paste the answers so that you can go back to it without having to log into their online platform. It also means you will have the answers saved that you can use in the future. To complete this work experience you need to be confident to speak on teams in front of a very large group.
