Overview of the Experience

Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
4/5
Throughout the virtual work experience week, we were all enabled to attend a variety of talks with solicitors and trainee solicitors, learning what law is about, how Pinsent Masons works, and how to get into law. We were also set individual tasks, as well as group discussions, and with supervisors.
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
4/5
It was very enjoyable with a clear demonstration that Pinsent Masons strives to make the week engaging, enjoyable, and fulfilling for any participants. I would have liked to have more engagement with the other students, however, in a full-packed week, I understand that this would be difficult, especially while virtual.
How well organised was your work experience?
5/5
We were set up with an account on Forage that provided us with a work-style intranet page, where we had a calendar and gained the ability to chat with other participants and staff. The meetings, tasks, and any extra resources were clearly listed here, with no confusion at any point.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
5/5
It definitely gave me an insight into Law and how to go about entering this career path. Before, I was rather unsure how I would go about this, but now I possess a thorough understanding. They were open and honest about their own experiences, their opinions, and their best advice.
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
5/5
No, it was a work experience week for students 16-18, providing us with an opportunity to further understand Law. As it was virtual, there were no travel expenses or hotel expenditures. Many work experiences cost money to attend, therefore I am extremely grateful that this was an entirely free opportunity.

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
5/5
I learnt a variety of skills, including CV writing, applications, interview tips, and more. Although it was a law work experience, these covered more areas than just law, enriching us with many suggestions. I also learnt the foundations of law, using the set tasks to engage myself with the course.

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
5/5
On reflection, about half the talks were focused on engaging us with the company and what it would be like to work in a law-based environment. The extra resources on the intranet page provided us with tours around the London-based office, and many people from the company talked to us.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
4/5
There were two virtual networking lunches where we gained the opportunity to meet with other students. As well as this, we had supervisor groups and other breakout rooms where we were encouraged to actively participate. I would have appreciated more time dedicated to this, though, as it would encourage community.

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend Pinsent Masons LLP to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It was a thoroughly enjoyable week where Pinsent Masons made full use of the time available and truly encouraged us to learn and take part. There were a great number of talks we had with workers to learn about their experiences and grasp a full understanding of working in Law.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons LLP?
I would advise them to go in with an open mind, prepared to engage and put forth ideas into a larger group of people. Nobody criticised any ideas, instead welcomed them and willingly engaged. I would also remind them to take notes, be prepared, and fully listen to every event.
