Overview of the Experience

Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
5/5
Over four days several presenters gave talks on different areas and aspects of law, as well a their journey to becoming a lawyer. We took part in several group tasks which included debating and building a succinct and powerful argument. We were also set individual tasks that included reading leases and collecting key information for a client, and creating acts.
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
5/5
I really enjoyed this experience, especially the interactive activities, and the ability to ask questions and receive answers from presenters. I found this experience extremely useful, especially in the way it introduced me to a lot more legal terminology in a way that was not overwhelming. I found this to be an exciting and engaging experience.
How well organised was your work experience?
5/5
It was extremely well organized, using a platform in order to present a schedule which included and presented clearly all the relevant links necessary to enter into the meetings. The tasks were also very well thought out and easy to access, and I encountered no difficulties along my use of the website.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
5/5
This work experience helped me feel secure in my choice of career path, as I was able to experience the work and think on whether this would be something I would want to do full time in the future. I was given excellent guidance and my supervisors gave me very informative advice.
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
5/5
I did not receive any payment as this was a virtual work experience and was only an introduction into the legal world. There were no travel costs, meal costs, social costs or location costs so there was no reason for me to be reimbursed at all completely. This was not an issue.

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
5/5
I learnt the importance of networking and reaching out to anyone and everyone to assist in the start of a career in law. I learnt how to understand legal terminology, and to read through a mass of words in order to find the relevant information. This experience has also built my analytical skills.

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
5/5
I was able to not only meet people working there and experience the company culture through their experiences and stories, but I was also able to watch a video tour of the office, allowing me to gain a deeper look into the company, despite this being a virtual work experience.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
5/5
There were plenty of opportunities for networking with other students, solicitors, potential employees and trainee solicitors. We could use the chat function to talk to others and share linkdin links, and there was a lunchtime session set up for the sole purpose of networking and creating new connections that was excellent.

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend Pinsent Masons LLP to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend this experience to a friend or colleague as it was an excellent experience that allowed me an insight in to a top law firm, and allowed me to experience what the work could look like in the future. I would very much recommend this experience to anyone.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons LLP?
I would advise them to research the firm fully in order to find key words or 'buzz words' used by the firm so you can use those words in your own application, in order to show you have fully researched and thought out your application. Also, put a lot of effort into your application, it will be worth it.
