Overview of the Experience

Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
5/5
It involved listening to talks, drafting mock documents and engaging with lawyers who currently work at the firm. The content of talks ranged across departments and areas of the business. It was also great to be able to ask questions about the lives of the lawyer and gain an insight into the profession.
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
5/5
I have really enjoyed it and it’s been interesting to gain some practical experience into the legal profession. It was fantastic to hear from a variety of different trainees from different areas of the business and learn about the different lives that the lawyers have. They were all very friendly and informative.
How well organised was your work experience?
5/5
It was incredibly well organised on the Forage platform. It was easy to navigate and was well put together. The early talent team were friendly and always on hand to answer any questions as well as being enthusiastic. They made the programme very enjoyable and easily accessible and this aided the experience.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
5/5
It was nice to get an insight into the legal sector and to hear from a variety of trainees and more experienced lawyers. It has provided me with more knowledge about what lawyers do and I will certainly bear this in mind as I look to the future of what I want to do.
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
5/5
No I was not paid or reimbursed for this experience as it was a free, voluntary work experience placement that was created by the Early Talent Team at the law firm Pinsent Masons. It is a programme that I would recommend to other young people as it was informative and engaging,

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
5/5
There was an introduction to legal skills such as critical thinking, understanding legal terminology, commercial awareness, attention to detail, engagement, attentiveness. It was great to be able to present to some lawyers on a real life case and to be involved with communication tasks as this was enjoyable and informative.

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
5/5
The culture of Pinsent Masons shone through the presentations and it was nice to see those values embodied through the staff and their ethos. It was good to see these values being reinforced through community action projects which were explained by some of the people who lead this work - it was good to hear about this.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
5/5
There were opportunities to network with participants and employees and they were all very friendly and engaging so they were easy to communicate with and to ask questions to. It was nice to hear their personal experiences as well as their advice to future prospective applications who are looking to enter the legal sector.

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend Pinsent Masons LLP to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It has a great culture, friendly staff a pleasant environment (albeit virtual this year) and people were very willing to help and give advice to prospective applicants as well as draw on their personal experience and reflect on what the strengths and weaknesses are, as well as benefits and disadvantages of a career in the legal sector.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons LLP?
I would recommend being authentic as to who you are and engaging with the values, ethos and culture of the firm and these can be found via the Pinsent Masons website. The Early Talent Team are very approachable and friendly and will not mind if you get in touch with them.
