Overview of the Experience

Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
4/5
It involved watching online videos both live and pre-recorded by professionals that worked at the firm who discussed their personal experiences and journeys in their career of law. It also included Q and A sessions and break-out rooms which allowed us to have a more interactive and personalized experience. We also had tasks set for us to apply the knowledge we have learnt.
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
5/5
I really enjoyed the work experience because it allowed me to go into detail about something I am curious and passionate about, and it provided other people who are in the sector of law who share this passion that were able to answer many questions and give me advice through the program whilst doing real-life specific tasks.
How well organised was your work experience?
4/5
It was very well organised considering there was a lot of content to cover within only four days. The structure allowed me not only to stay engaged and interact, but also to ensure that I understand everything that was being said during the different presentations, which meant that I was able to utilise the tasks set because I understood what I had to do.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
5/5
This work experience helped me a lot in deciding whether to take a law conversion after my degree in university, as it has not only given me a sense of the type of content I would be learning, but also what it would feel like taking these skills and knowledge into practice. I found that I prefer practicing law rather than learning about it, which had also finalized my degree choice.
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
4/5
I hadn't been paid monetarily, however, I was paid with a lot of knowledge and skills which had made this experience worth the while. After every session, I had felt like I had something to take away from it and would by no means say it was a waste of time.

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
4/5
I have learnt about the details of what it's like to be in the sector of law and gained a more realistic perspective of what it's like to have a career in law. Having met new people (both students and supervisors), I have improved my communication and social skills, but also research and analytical skills through the tasks provided.

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
4/5
I learnt a lot about the company culture and what it's like to work there as the speakers who worked in the Pinsent Masons offices described well what a day in their life was generally like. Furthermore, there was a pre-recorded video giving us a tour of the offices. I learnt a lot despite the distance.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
5/5
Yes, there were many sessions where we were put into smaller groups and had the opportunity to network with other students, but also to have more individualized conversations with employees as we had our own supervisors which we were able to talk to at the end and beginning of the program.

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend Pinsent Masons LLP to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a well-rounded programme that underlines what it's like entering the career of law, going through the different pathways, sectors, experiences, tasks, etc. I would suggest it to a friend unsure of what law is and whether it would be something they are interested in doing, as it doesn't require any specialised knowledge to be able to participate.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons LLP?
I would say be yourself, Pinsent Masons are a very diverse company who embraces diversity, change, and teamwork and is looking for employees who think differently and work hard. After completing this programme I have learnt that they do not look for the generic smart student with all the law knowledge, 'law robot' was used to describe them, but rather someone with character and drive.
