Overview of the Experience

Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
5/5
The work experience involved listening to talks from various solicitors such as polly whitelam who hosted a session on CV top tips. we also had a talk from the creator of Legable, a website which helps to find students work experience placements and opportunities if they might find them harder to access.
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
5/5
I enjoyed it to a great extent and feel as though I learned and developed many skills which would allow me work in an environment as fast-paced as Pinsent Masons such as being able to multi-task, as shown in the Jaffa Cake task, where we weighed up many options for different ideas.
How well organised was your work experience?
5/5
It was very well organised via Forage, as the schedule, tasks and videos and chat were all easily accessible, the chat function allowed the providers to communicate effectively with the students and tell them in advance of any changes that would be made to the programme, which was very helpful.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
5/5
It helped a lot, as i hadn't previously considered becoming a solicitor but rather a barrister and although this initial idea hasn't changed, it has opened my mind to the prospect of working in a corporate world and how a solicitor would work at pinsent masons and how a day would function for them
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
3/5
No, I was not because it was a work experience placement which didn't require any payment as it was given a place via application and then only for one week we had to join the sessions and join group exercises, it wasn't necessarily paid work we completed and it was virtual too, not in real life.

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
5/5
I developed my questioning skills, which allowed me to ask more questions confidently and not feel ashamed of asking questions that might seem to be 'silly'. I was also able to develop my reasoning skills during the forage legal tasks whichw ere completed both independently and part of the group

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
5/5
I learned lots about this, as the diversity session meant i could see myself in an environment with other people who were like me, which is generally difficult to find in a workplace but it's clear the diversity and inclusion at pinsent masons is very much thought about and considered
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
5/5
Yes, there was a useful networking session on the last day with the other students on the work experience, as well as throughout the week, we met solicitors, company owners, people who run different sessions within pinsent masons such as diversity and inclusion groups, so we could find these people on linkedin later.

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend Pinsent Masons LLP to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because unlike many law firms, pinsent masons has clearly highlighted their need to be inclusive and help different groups of people with their entry to law, such as BAME communities or LGBTQ+ communities as well as catering to all their needs, which is something I would definitely recommend to a friend
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons LLP?
1. make sure that they have a thorough idea of the company's aims and ideas before applying, so that they would know what sorts of things to include on their application.
2. mention skills applicable to law and make your skills adaptable to law so that pinsent masons can see how you'd fit with them
