I spent the last year interning at Strategy&. The majority of my time has been spent in the healthcare team - working on projects across the Middle East. I have also been involved in considerable amounts of regulatory and financial economics work.
The majority of my work involved undertaking and supporting qualitative analysis and benchmarking.
The work is naturally very varied which helps to keep you on your toes and engaged!

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

My placement year has honestly been a fantastic experience. I would never have imagined I would have been involved in such a variety of interesting work. Covid-19 naturally put a dampener on the experience as otherwise I would have spent a considerable amount of time in London and the Middle East. However, the firm made ample efforts to ensure I felt supported throughout.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

The PwC feedback system is extremely thorough and feedback is encouraged at all levels within the firm. Across the year I have collected around 15 pieces of feedback from people of different grades.
From my feedback, I would say that the quality of my work has improved considerably. I am able to work more efficiently but also to a higher standard. Training provided by the firm has helped me to become relatively proficient in Tableau and Excel.

Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme structure is fairly well organised. I received initial communications regarding the programme early on in my first year of University. Then it was a fairly standard recruitment pathway involving psychometric tests and an interview. Following a successful interview we were invited to a two day residential in a hotel and a few weeks later had to attend an all-day assessment centre.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

The PwC support structure is fantastic. There is a wealth of information and training at your finger tips on the Vantage platform.
In terms of personal support, from the onset I was allocated two 'buddies' and a career coach. The buddies were responsible for my general integration, being there if I needed support or advice etc. whereas the career coach was an ever-so-slightly more formal relationship which focussed on my development and career goals.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

This question is not fully applicable to me as there are no specific qualifications needed for the line of work that I am in. However, I know from speaking to people within my network that the firm are incredibly supportive (and sometimes willing to fund) employees partaking in Masters Degrees.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Again, not a fully relevant question for me. However - the training which has been provided to me this year has been top-class and will serve me well as I prepare to return to University and beyond.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

PwC have a plethora of extra-curricular activities available. Unfortunately due to Covid I missed out on the vast majority of these. However, over the last few weeks my colleagues in London have been able to return to their weekly 5-a-side football, Friday night drinks and team events in the office.

Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Mainly because of the opportunities available and experiences which you can obtain. In consulting you are very much in-control of what you do and where you do it. Thus, if you are proactive and have a goal in mind it is very much a place where you will be supported to achieve this.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
I would advise you to understand what kind of a person PwC look for. Review the PwC professional and consider how and when you have acted in-line with the components.
Furthermore, I would go in with an open mind. Initially I thought International Development was all I wanted to work on but I have had an incredible experience working within Health.
