Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

So day to day we would continue our normal work, unless there is a workshop day with the nvq group. This is done via a team call on our laptops due to the pandemic. There would be a run through of what we had to do for the item to be completed that day and we would then be left to complete it and send it to our assessors via email.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I used to be a bit unsure with some of the items or would be confused as to what the question asks of me. This is sorted with the nvq workshop days with an assessor online to give a different spin on what the question is asking. This makes the programme a lot easier to go through and it is great when we had the day to just be left alone to get on with it.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

The apprenticeship teaches me a few new things with modern programs that I would not have normally used, especially the simple ones. It gives you confidence to find the information you need from the job or your company and helps give a good understanding of what is lawful or not.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

As said before, I feel that this is pretty well structured but mostly from an organisational point. I’m not sure if this counts but the questioning in some of the items didn’t suit my job role that well where it would ask me for an example form on something I tend not to use in my job.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

From my employer’s standpoint, which would pretty much be just my manager, I would say that we are quite highly supported for getting our nvq work done and are willing to give extra time if need be should we struggle. Even collecting evidence at work is encouraged which is a bonus.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I would say lots. But I am slightly confused as to who the training provider is (to put a name on it). However I will leave that as my bad memory and I will say that my assessors have been top-notch helpful with getting us through this apprenticeship
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Some things within the apprenticeship program may not help me with my job, but it can at least give us an insight into other parts of our job and company. Other areas have either reaffirmed our skills or helped us to understand new ones entirely that we can use in the future.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I would have to say that this may not really apply to me or my work. Mostly due to the pandemic however there would probably be some if i looked hard enough. It is a job where we are all out in the field all day in separate locations which doesn’t help organising these things off our own back as well.

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?

Why?
Openreach is a place that I feel anyone would be happy to work for. They have apparently changed their ways in putting the employees before the work and this shows straight away with how serious they are with health and safety and the attitude of the company encourages us to work better.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
My top tips would be to think about what working for the company involves and whether or not you can see yourself working in that role. Generally, in openreach, employees are working outside most of the time and have to deal with heights and dirt including bugs and the like.
