Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Overview of my role was to activate two different DWDM nodes as well as creating a presentation which encompassed everything I learnt and how to convert this technology for a non-technical member to understand. A day to day basis for me was to read multiple different articles, documents, go through presentation to learn more about this technology and how we can use it for our advantage and what steps need to be taken to allow growth of the company. In addition, I was able to join a variety of calls where people were discussing multiple factors about the progress for the new network infrastructure and any problems occurring.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes throughout my internship I had responsibilities to check for key information stated by the vendor to see where we could leverage. Some others include creating a questions and answer document when meeting the CTO and going through documents and charts to identify key strengths and weakness of the equipment and then relay that information forward. Furthermore, I have worked with a fellow colleague to help create a wavelength and to go through the steps if a fault or failure arises with the program.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Throughout my experience in CityFibre I have been able to develop new and improved upon my existing skills such as the ability to quickly gather information on a particular topic and to have a general understanding as well as my presenting skills I believe have drastically improved compared to 1 year ago. Some new skills I was able to pick up were how to decide on a strong supplier for a growth and benefit of a company, in addition be able to create professional documents to present for the future.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
From day one of my internship I had a lot of support from my line manager informing me of how everything works, what tasks I need to complete, what certain terms and systems mean and breaking it down so it's easier to understand. We also had a internship group call were I speak to others in the same position as me, making me feel more comfortable. Everyone on the team was always very supportive and will to lend a hand with anything, I could ask for support no matter the time or day. Everyone here was very kind and friendly people, which was truly amazing to see.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company's culture was truly something I have never seen before, I had heard about all the positive feedback from other staff members from the application progress but I was always a little sceptical however, this completely changed after working and talking to people on the team seeing how happy and hard working they are was refreshing to see. Everyone always had good feedback for the company and especially for the CEO. A wide diversity of people and always inclusive.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend CityFibre to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to CityFibre
In the interview process the most important aspect to consider is to be yourself and to not hide any part of you as well as showcasing a genuine interest and passion for the role. Even if you don't have the experience or knowledge they require if you can clearly show to them what you are capably of and how you'll be able to pick things up quickly to ensure consistency and completion of work. It will be fine.
