Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Day-to-day tasks include identifying new data that needs to be imported or updated on the system. Throughout the course of this placement, I was able to use my technical skills to identify and improve some of these business operations. This role followed a hybrid working model which allowed me to work from the comfort of my home while giving me the opportunity to meet the wonderful team at CityFibre.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
The team I was placed with at CityFibre always made sure to have me involved with something. Aside from the tasks that surround their day-to-day work, they provided me with insight on other business operations at CityFibre. During the course of this placement, my goal was to optimise existing operations that have lasting impact on the team and I was given all opportunities to fulfil this goal.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I was able to learn more about Excel and other data management tools while further developing my programming skills with Python. Aside from technical skills, this was a very fulfilling experience with a lovely team that allowed me to develop as a professional. Through this role, I have learnt that you need to be a highly analytical person for a role like this and pay attention to every little detail.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I was provided with excellent support and guidance throughout my summer placement. The team has weekly check-ins to discuss the work done for the week and discuss their objectives. I was able to get in one-on-one's with most of the team to discuss the work they're involved in and if there was something I could get involved in. The line manager was very welcoming and made sure I was smoothly integrated with the team.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Good work-life balance. A lot of opportunities to learn. The management is very approachable and understanding. The weekly summer placement check-ins allowed for me to network with other interns across the country.

This summer placement has allowed me to learn more about the field of data and analytics. The tasks assigned and the wonderful team at CityFibre provided me with valuable experience for the future. It meets all my expectations for a successful summer placement and I hope to return soon.

What advice would you give to others applying to CityFibre
The application process and HR department at CityFibre is excellent. The interview gave me insight into the role operations, the team, the wider company operations and got back to me at the earliest. To others applying, I would suggest researching on the role, be able to discuss everything on your resume and most importantly ask questions during the interview to ensure it is the perfect fit for you.
