Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
my now daily role consists of breaking out and organising packages of work, undertaking surveys, being in constant communication woth multiple departments to arrange times, materials and other resources such as labour to be able to complete a package of work. as well as reviewing work of myself and colleagues to ensure the highest quality.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
most of this programme has been enjoyable, i have been out into multiple departments and learnt a great deal about he business in multiple respects, constructive work, welding, mechanical and finally electrical. some placements i have found better than others but overall the work i have been doing has been enjoyable. there have only been issues with regard to the college and now finally the end point assessment which i have had big concerns with

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
i believe my own communication skills have grown, as well as my time management. skills i would say i have not learnt but through this work I have gained a lot of knowledge regarding the work i am undertaking and that is primarily submarines, how they work and how to best undertake work within them

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
at points you can tell this kind of programme has been running for a very long time within this particular company so there are some very strong structural components in place. as i relayed in the previous question, the parts that have been very unorganised are the college aspect, and now the end point assessment which have been very frustrating
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
the employer has given myself a great deal of support, for example i sustained an injury and was dealt with admirably, even when i was determined to come in in crutches they thought of my safety and sent me home. there have been occasions where this has fallen short during the recent events of covid, demanding return to work at the start and height of the pandemic which i did not appreciat at the time, mixed overall
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
my apprentice manager has given me an incredible amount of support when it came to my NVQ, talking me through things very clearly and subsequently aiding in its completion, to which i have a deep gratitude. i have seen this happen with the other apprentices in my group and none cant speak highly of the help received
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
my qualification splits in two, NVQ which was work based and intrinsicly designed to intergrate yourself within the business and then answer a great many questions that youd only be able to answer if you dived fully into the business, as well as analytical work of work i have done. this has greatly helped my understanding of the business in most respects
the btec on the other hand had some very good modules to understand principles of this field but some that realistically did not aid in anything
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
there are quite a few arranged extra curricular activities organised by a specific department, aiding in getting cheaper tickets for shows, cheaper gym memberships, each year there is a Christmas carol service and also a few initiatives to aid people getting healthy through healthy competition interdepartmentally like virgin active. there is also a fishing club.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Babcock International Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
not particularly the apprenticeship but i would recommend babcock as an employer very highly, at the moment with a specific transition within the apprenticeship as well as anomalies in contracts for different intakes it is very hard to recommend to someone my age (28), to someone coming straight out of school though it would genuinely be the best start to a career in my city
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock International Group?
i would simply urge them to do research into what they want to acheive. there are many avenues within the Devonport site that can be beneficial, and also some that i believe to be detrimental. so research what job you would like to do and what that entails and go from there
