Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

A distressed credit risk analyst. Day to day work including risk and credit analysis, business management, system management and management reporting. Client meetings and client relationship management. Record management, billing, invoicing and invoice management. Working on skills development for myself and others. Working on client project management to turnaround, restructure or exit distressed debt.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have loved my programme, Barclays is an excellent employer and takes steps to continually support personal and professional development. There is a great team and company culture and people are always looking for ways to develop and maintain the culture even when working from home for the last 12+ months.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt multiple new skills including credit analysis and report writing, client relationship management and negotiating skills. I have also learnt the history of risk management, risk management strategies and frameworks, KPIs, KRIs as well as management reporting, regulatory frameworks, internal frameworks and policies. I have gained my International Certificate in Financial Services Risk Management (IRMCert)
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme hasn't been particularly well structured and seems to forget that a lot of risk management work in banks tends to be quite confidential and when projects and portfolios require work product it can be quite hard to provide this - concerns have been regularly raised but not very well addressed.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My manager has been very supportive of my work both for Barclays and for my apprenticeship. HR have been keen to support us but have missed regular opportunities to do so, regular reorganisations of the early careers team have been detrimental and some EC team members seem to forget that we exist at times.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider has been supportive but seems to forget at times concerns that have been raised about the programme and its requirements. A change in talent coach has been beneficial as our new coach has been a lot more supportive and switched on which has helped push our qualification forward.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I don't believe that my qualification links particularly closely to my day to day role. It sometimes helps to understand capital requirements and some risk management policies / frameworks but some aren't relevant and I believe the IRM qualification is in need of updating to fit with modern times.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I have enjoyed getting involved in a number of extra curricular activities at work including the Risk Diversity and Inclusion council and Barclays Spectrum network. I have also been involved in multiple charity initiatives and local outreach programmes in our local community. There are also plenty of sports and social clubs available at work.

Why?
The atmosphere at work is consistently positive and the culture of the organisation is excellent. The organisation is warm and welcoming and supports personal and professional development every step of the way. People met at work tend to be life long friends and it is not difficult to find ambassadors for yourself.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
Be yourself. Be yourself. Be yourself. Barclays is looking for individuals, be professional but don't shy away from who you are. Focus on the online assessments and take time to prepare for your interview, research the company and don't be afraid to bring notes to your interview. There are so many career stages you can join Barclays so if one doesn't suit you there will be another.
