Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am a cabler which involves pulling cable through the network, getting people connected. Without the cabling infrastructure being pulled in, customers would not be able to receive internet and the cables would not be able to be jointed and spliced in the access boxes. I also problem solve and attend jobs were front lin engineers have difficulty getting a customer connected.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
i have found the programme incredibly rewarding and challenging. It has been fun learning new skills and putting my new found learnings in to practice on a daily basis. I have found that each day, my confience grows more and more and I feel like my knowledge is really expanding.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I learned alot about health and safety, how to rod and rope, using cabling techniques, how to test for gas, how to lift safely using the kinetic lifting technique and have also been on soft dig and full dig courses as well signing lighting guarding and learned additional core skills throughout my SVQ

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I have found the training to be very well structured and easy to follow, using numbered items and tasks which are clear and concise and make it easy to understand what was required on any given item. The current pandemic situation made things more difficult with not being able to do things face to face but MS teams has been a worthy substitute.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have found that the support level I have received from my employer has been fantastic, from the buddy I work with on a daily basis to my direct line manager and other colleagues in between, it has been a great support network and inspired me to be as supportive to others and especially the new starts coming into the team.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider provided great support, was always contactable and always happy to offer me any advice, support or guidance if required. I never ever felt that I was left wanting for anything or that I couldn't ask or find any information or guidance that i may have been needing.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification helps me to perform better as it gives me confidence that what I have worked on and achieved throughout my years apprenticeship, has given me the knowledge and skills to be able to do my job to a high standard and more importantly, to a high standard of safety
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Unfortunately, since I started with Openreach on 1st June 2020, the country and world at large has been in the grips of pandemic which has effectively killed off any opportunities for anyone to be able to engage in extra curricular activities at the moment. There does seem to be some light at the end of the tunnel now though so hopefully that will change in the not too distant future.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would and have recommended Openreach to a friend and family as i find it a fantastic place to work. I thoroughly enjoy my work and getting up each day to go work is a privilege. Great company, great staff and great and varied job that pays well and gets you out and about each day.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
My tips or advice to anyone applying would be, do it and do it confidently, safe in the knowledge that you are trying to join a great organisation with fantastic opportunities to learn and grow. Be honest and focus on safety as a number one priority when looking for examples.
