Trainee Openreach Engineer Review

I am a service delivery engineer working for Openreach and my job role involves me providing fibre broadband to the customers premises. This is done by passing a cable from the customers quoted CBT, connectorized block terminal, whether is mounted on an over head pole or underground in a joint box, and connecting it to a cable that comes from inside the customers property. The cable from inside the customers property is then connected to an ONT, optical network terminal.

I feel my programme is pretty well organised and structured. I admit sometimes I may get a little bit confused or not sure where to look for information or when I do find where to look for information, I may feel a bit stuck and not sure what link to click on. But the apprentice team are sure to quickly solve this issue and lead me in the right direction.

I feel I receive an adequate amount of support from my employer and there are always more experienced engineers ready to help me whit whatever issues I'm facing. I feel everything is explained to me in a clear and understandable way in which I am able to then implement this when on my own.

I feel I receive a good amount of support from my training provider. There are always Microsoft Teams meetings to keep me up to date with what's going on and what I need to be doing and to keep me up to date with my own personal progress. I feel there is a good support system at Openreach.

I feel my qualification through my training provider helps me perform better in my role because its directly linked with what the job role I carrying put is. The training is a hands approach style which I am able to implement everything I've been taught directly into work life.

I would recommend Openreach to a friend because I feel this is not just a job but an actual career where one can actually look to retire and live a fulfilled life. I feel there are always paths for career progression and one doesnt have to feel stuck in the particular role that they started in.
