Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role involves fixing machinery and assembly lines when they break down on site, from a mechanical side. I also organize preventative maintenance reports on the Maximo database at Cummins. I also carry out preventative maintenance for the machinery and assembly lines on site.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have thoroughly enjoyed the program, learning new skills and developing my confidence throughout. The course has benefitted me both at work and out of work giving me life skills as well as role specific skills.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Since joining Cummins on site i have developed my fitting, turning and milling skills that I gained at college. I have learnt skills involved in fault finding. I have learnt how to order parts and get quotes for replacement parts and equipment. Another skill i have learned is the use of the Maximo database and how to input data into the system.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The program is well structured with the foundation knowledge that i picked up from my first year at college that could then be built upon on site further developing my skills in my role. while also taking the Corona virus pandemic into account the course was well organized and structured and support was available throughout.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive all the support I need and I can always ask questions or ask for help and guidance in any area of my apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel that the qualification I received from my training provider gave me the foundation knowledge that you need in mechanical engineering however there is also some areas that weren't necessary for my job role at Cummins. That being said I am thankful I got to learn a range of knowledge over many subjects within engineering as this developed my understanding of engineering as a whole.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Normally there would be, however i am yet to experience them due to the corona virus pandemic so can't yet comment on this.

Would you recommend Cummins to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It has given me a strong start to my career and given me highly valuable skills and opportunities that are not available to college students doing an A level course.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?
Learn about the company as much as possible - do your homework. If you want to gain an apprenticeship at Cummins show as much interest as possible and show them you have a drive to learn. Think of some questions that may even challenge them to answer to show that you have a profound interest in there business.
