Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
On a day to day, I'm booked to a client engagement with a team ranging from managers to apprentices. I'm assigned controls which I'm given responsibility over and from this I communicate with the client to get the testing complete.
This may consist of face to face meetings as well as email interaction.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The programme is great, I've built up a lot of experience and technical knowledge across different sectors such as tax, IT Audit and financial audit.
Having this varied experience has allowed me to transfer skills across my different rotations which brings a different perspective on the work performed in the team.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I've developed my skills on Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint as well as improving in my professionalism and ability to communicate with both internal and external management confidently.
My technical knowledge has improved through sitting exams as well as completing training on the 'Learning' platform. There's many opportunities to develop.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is well organised, it is a rotational programme which provides 4-6 rotations across 3 years allowing an apprentice to gain experience across different service lines such as Audit, Tax and Consulting.
An apprentice is placed more often than not in Audit due to the business demand and capacity.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
Support is received from the employer in many different ways as apprentices have their own 360 leadership team as well as their departmental leaders. This provides different scopes of support when struggling and 360 leadership work closely with your department leaders to ensure any problems are solved and the apprentice is content.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
You receive a lot of support from the training providers. BPP are the training providers who assist you when working towards your qualification through offering content available online along with tests called 'steps' to see how well you're doing.
Along with this, BPP organise calls to discuss your progress.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Your qualification is very beneficial especially in a service line such as Audit where there's a great need for technical knowledge.
Studying the AAT or ACA provides an employee with the technical knowledge to break down their testing and understand what is needed for the testing to be completed.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are many social events that take place at KPMG such as bowling, drinks and various other opportunities to meet and socialise with colleagues.
There are sports teams in the departments where football is organised weekly which gives an opportunity to meet and socialise with more senior employees at the firm.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
Yes
Why?
KPMG is a great firm to gain experience from and build your technical knowledge. The portfolio of high profile clients allows one to gain a lot of responsibility and trust to overlook areas on their own from such an early stage. This helps excel the growth of the junior member of staff.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
Research the different departments and services KPMG offer as there's a breadth of work performed at the firm. See what you think you'd be suited to and get in touch with employees in that field to get a better day to day understanding of the work performed by them.
