Vacation Student Review

I was an intern in the audit department and my main role was just learning the ins and outs of the job. I completed some mandatory trainings, sat in client meetings, departmental meetings and roadshows, and was assigned some tasks on workpapers. I worked closely with different teams depending on need and got great exposure.

Yes. After the first week or so of getting my bearings, my team was always happy to give me something new to do to gain exposure. I was allocated work and allowed to complete it by myself, with supervision whenever needed, and as time passed, i was even allowed to handle an entire workpaper all by myself. I was grateful for the trust they gave me, as responsibilities assigned were not menial but rather challenging and important tasks that helped me actually understand the field.

Yes. I've gained more computer literacy, improving my excel skills, AI prompts, preparing slide decks and workpapers I also gained communication and problem solving skills, learnt how to navigate clients, and how better to communicate in the workplace. I also learnt a lot about audit software used.

I received support throughout, not just from my buddies or other apprentices, but from managers and senior managers, helping me navigate work as well as integrating me into the team and wider department.

The company culture was surprisingly laid back. Working from home vs the office was usually a personal decision that could be discussed with the manager, with only 2 mandatory in office days. The team was friendly and cohered well, and there were many social events arranged.

I enjoyed it a lot. Everyone was friendly and always willing to help, even at the expense of finishing their tasks quicker. I enjoyed the responsibilities given to me by my team and the opportunities they gave me to learn about the firm by sitting into various department meetings and events, and introducing me to people.
