Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Typically on a day-to-day basis I would connect to datasets and extract data from them then do some kind of analysis of the data or visualising the data. I also help with data request we get from different teams that need data extracted for them, this can also involve some analysis or visualisation.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I'm enjoying the programme a lot. The work is good and is quite easy to manage but if you've got too much to do then there will be someone to help you out with it. The company culture is really good everyone is welcoming and really helpful when you need it.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt lots of new skills such as programming using Python which makes can make analysis much quicker than using excel. I have also developed my excel skills allowing me to perform more difficult tasks in excel if its quicker to do it instead of in python.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is structured in a really good way, we are given training when we first join to help us understand the kind of work that goes on here and how we will fit in. With the studying and working side we are given lots of support to help us progress through the course.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my manager as i have regular meetings with him to keep him updated on my workload and study balance so if i ever feel there is too much going on then i can just say and he will help me out. The HR team are helpful they set up drop-in sessions where we can go and raise any concerns that we might have as well as just being able to go and talk to them outside the sessions if we have any concerns.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have received really good support from the training provider, we have quarterly calls with our coach to check our progress and we are able to set up calls if we feel we need help or have any concerns. They are quick to respond if we get stuck on any of the assignments we are set to help out if you get stuck.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think it has helped me perform well in my job as I have learnt how to use lots of new tools and techniques that speed up my work. We are also taught how to run through the data and perform checks to make sure the data is usable before we start our work.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are a huge variety of clubs or extra-curricular activities that you can get involved with. They have lots of sport clubs including football and badminton or there are social clubs such as cinema or comedy. There is also a great chance to do volunteering here as we have a dedicated week where you can go out and help somewhere in the local community for a day.

It's a great place to work as there is such a wide variety of work that is available for you to get involved in and find something that you enjoy.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)?

During the assessment day and the interviews just try to stay relaxed and be open and honest. The assessment day is structured in a really good way as they give you time in between each task you are given to relax a bit so that it doesn't feel so full on.
