Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am part of the service delivery team within openreach. My job is to get people back online when there service goes down wether it be phone or internet. Some people rely on the internet to live. During COVID this service became even more required by the people of the uk. Fault finding and repairing, installations or renewal of old hardware is what I will do in my day to day job.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
So far I’m thoroughly enjoying it but I am only 7 weeks into the training and haven’t really done any real work yet. I look forward to what challenges come my way and how I’ll overcome them. Once I go live that will be when the real rest is as that will be what I will be doing in a daily basis.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learned many new skills as the job is quite complex to start off with there is a lot to learn. Skills I’ve learned are varied from rope knots to fault finding using the hand held tester . I will also look to push on and learn more once I’m fully competent in my current job role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Some of the training courses are more structured then others, some are easy to learn then others. After 7 weeks of training there is a lot to take in and go into the real world with. I’m hoping that I can use as much information as I can to help me do a good job
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
The training staff down in Peterborough have been great. They answer any questions you have and if they can’t they will find someone that can. My patch lead has also been very helpful. Hoping when I go live I’ll still get a lot of support because that is when I’ll need it most
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
As I said above the training staff have been very helpful and make sure you understand what they are trying to get across before moving on. They are very strong minded on health and safety as they know how important it is to us, others and the company as a whole.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification behind the programme is something that will prove to this company and many others I have what it takes to do the job. I will not just be relying on my word I will have physical evidence that I have what it takes to do the job at hand
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I haven’t really found any at the moment but I also haven’t looked. I love my football and also really into my fitness. If there was anything to take part in, or certain events I can represent the company in whether it be for charity or advertising I would jump at the chance

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
So far since I’ve been here I love everything about the job, there is only one thing that is a bit of thorn in the side for me but you cannot have it all. They seem like a great company to work for and really look after you. I’m hoping for a lengthy career here at openreach.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
Make sure your not scared of heights. Don’t mind being out in all weathers. Like being on your own, as your like your own boss. Driven and determined. Switched on and also like to think outside the box because that is what engineering boils down to.
