Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
General maintenance of the power equipment that supply the network infrastructure.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I do enjoy the job, as it is meaningful and has interesting situations and scenarios to learn about. Wont get bored.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
New skills are learnt all the time, but understanding the principles is key to development. There is always more to learn.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
I have been experiencing a lot of contradictions between different departments, to a point where I don't trust what i'm told. On several occasions I've been told 'I've done what I need to and that's it' only for later on to be told i haven't done something else that i didn't even know i had to do. I've been in correspondence with people about courses, training and accommodations all for those things to not happen leaving me in a frustrating position. I usually don't find out about it till i have arrived on site.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
As much as I need or require. The support isn't my issue it's the experience i need.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My NVQ assessor and I have never met, but due to COVID this is not unusual. He is communicative through email and phone. Always checking up on me and sending me some helpful resources. Has been Good. No issues with my current Assessor.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I personally learn better by doing the job a few times to give me a familiarity to that i'm actually doing then look at fundamental principles so as to apply that understanding and knowledge to theory afterwards.
In the college case, i felt that these principles we learned couldn't really be applied to the role, as they are overall general engineering principles which are still necessary but not always relevant to our job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
COVID
Cant blame work for that.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
My role within BT is something to be proud of. I feel the work is meaningful and offers me a sense of satisfaction but also challenge which looking long term is something i want as I don't feel the job will become boring.
Also I've never been to a job where so many people nearing retirement say they have worked for 30-40 years and they still enjoy it. If you hated it you would leave.
Proves to me that the company is worth the effort.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
You get out of life what you put in. Give it your all and you will do well in your work and your life.
