Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
FTTP Provision to customers of service providers such as SKY, TALK TALK and BT for example. On a day to day basis I would provide the final installation to premises, installing new lines from pole or underground to the building. Finally installing fibre equipment at the customer end ensuring their fibre installation is complete and ready to be used.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the work I do, each day offering different challenges and keeping me on my toes. My team are amazing and are always at hand to answer my queries or give me a hand when needed. My manager supports me 100% and only expects my best efforts. The companies progression route is fabulous compared to others I have experienced. Openreach have completely fulfilled my expectations, its a joy to work for such a company.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I am daily expanding my customer interaction skills as each customers is uniquely different. I am working towards my NVQ 2 and aiming to upskill further down the fibre network once competent enough to do so.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
From start to finish so far, I have been guided step by step through my week induction, 7 weeks training, 3 weeks buddying and NVQ day releases. The work I receive daily is that of my skillset and never too much. Everything has been suited to my current stage and well organised.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Already a few months down the line I have had great support from my manager, team members, my NVQ mentor, my patch lead and even HR. Everyone has been there to help wen I've needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
When I've needed my NVQ mentor has been there to answer any questions I've had , giving me guidance to complete the work I have at hand. I am contacted through various forms of communication to check where I am up to, what I need to correct and how well I have done.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
So far my learning has been more based on when working in the field. My NVQ work has more been to record what I have already been doing.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
yes for time to time my patch lead has organised for the team to engage in social activities outside of work hours.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Most definitely as everything has been brilliant. 1st class training, great teams/people working there. different challenges on a day to day basis, great training salary, great equipment provided to do the job. Great satisfaction and pride working for a 1st class company.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
Do your research in to Openreach and think about how your self manageable. Be yourself and it will come across in your interview, the interviewers are great REAL people and have been where you are starting out. If a Service delivery fibre engineer job is what your applying for, make sure your somewhat comfortable with heights, eventually it becomes second nature, even those I had seen struggle a little with this at first are now breezing those poles!
OVERALL YOUVE GOT THIS GIVE IT YOUR BEST SHOT!!
Its a great place to work.
