Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role is to provide, renew or repair fibre lines to customers premise, via telegraph poles or in the underground network. I work in the Cumbria patch so can be based anywhere from Blackpool to Carlisle. I work using hand and power tools, whilst wearing PPE. It is a physically demanding role.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am enjoying it greatly, my work day flies by and I seem to be fitting into the role very well. My skills are improving on a day to day basis and my confidence within the role is improving also. I am looking forward to my career within the company.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt many new skills since starting this job, such as how to climb telegraph poles correctly, what PPE is required. Checks I need to complete before climbing to see if it safe to do so. Within the underground network I have learnt how to check if it safe to open the box up (using correct equipment gas monitor, roller bar, box lifter).

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very well, everything seems to be planned in advance. From courses to buddying, it helps your progression when everything is planned in this way. I feel that for my apprenticeship, everything has been set out and I know what is expected of me and what I should get from the company.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have received a lot of support. My patch manager and lead are always able to answer any questions or help me in any difficult situations. I feel comfortable to be able to ask anything and not feel like its a stupid question and that I will be taken seriously at all times.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I have been told that whatever is needed, just ask the question and help will be given. It fills me with confidence that I will be able to succeed in this role whilst working towards my qualifications with the company. I look forward to completing this and gaining my qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I think that it is great, any extra knowledge which is relatable for my role is fantastic. I am always looking for ways to better myself in the workplace and having a qualification which is aimed at my role is only going to benefit me and make me a better engineer.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I haven't yet looked into this as much as I should have done. I'm sure there are plenty of oppurtinues for me to get involved with, but currently I am enjoying settling into the company and focusing on my role, steadily improving and becoming the best engineer I can be.
