Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My current Placement is in GLCM (Global Liquidity and Cash Management) I work with a wide range of teams to help facilitate the introduction of new banking services for our customers.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I've really enjoyed the programme so far. There's no doubt I've had to work hard and put a lot of effort into the course but it's been more than worth it so far.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
My communication skills have improved dramatically. Before joining the course, I found speaking in front of large groups incredibly difficult and would often stumble over my words. Now, I feel much more comfortable speaking in front of crowds.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The cohort I joined with were the first to join the Degree Apprenticeship Programme and ,because of that, there were some times where I felt uncertain about next steps but it wasn't long before the course seemed to flow much more cohesively.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a good amount of support from my colleagues in and out of the apprenticeship programme.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I have regular calls and catch ups with my Training Provider so I'm really happy with the amount of support they provide.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Some topics I learn in my degree course are incredibly relevant to my job, some aren't. But I think it's incredibly important to have that contextual knowledge about banks and businesses when starting your career so I think everything has been really useful so far.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I do like to get involved wherever I can. This has led me to support things like mental health teams and exercise challenges.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend HSBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
My friends are 19-20 years old and a lot of them don't know what to do as a career. I'd recommend HSBC due to the sheer scale of the bank and the variety of roles they could find as well as the friendly and inclusive culture.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
It's important to know the values and implement and reflect on them during interactions. Also, for a new-to-bank young adult, emphasis is placed on potential for development so it's okay not to know everything straight away.
