Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role is to oversee electrical installation tasks whilst being full time at college for my first year. I am currently on Electrical section learning domestic and industrial circuits whilst also working on practical's up to 415 volts. Also, during on the job hours, I got the opportunity to work in the new FA3 block before commissioning.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme very much. I ensure that I am always early to lessons/work in the morning and enjoy the activities which the training provider gives to us. The most enjoyable aspect of work is that every day is different, so it is great to work on new things and then come to work the next day performing a new task.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learned the ability to improve on my skills by communicating better with my team in order to get the work done on time and to a high standard. I am also gaining a greater knowledge at my job day by day whilst also being paid to learn. Every day is different so there is a good balance of skills to develop.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
My programme is very well organised with timetables changed in advanced whilst also letting us know in time. The number of tutors and the class sizes are good because you get a good balance of learning with a tutor and also working with the team. Sometimes there are a few unorganised instances (usually to do with COVID changes) but these eventually get sorted on the day.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I receive a good amount of support from my employer as they usually visit every other week to see how we are getting on. In these meetings, we can let our employer know if there are any issues and if anything needs reporting. Sometimes however, we have been left without a manager and have had around 4 different managers look after us since September.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive a great amount of support when working towards qualifications. All you have to do is ask the tutor how to do something and they will help you until you understand it. As a result, you can always manage to ask any questions and the tutors will always be able to help.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel that my qualification helps me perform better in my role as it coincides with the electrical section work I am doing throughout the week. This means that we have double the support from 2-3 tutors as this is how many we can see in the week. As a result, the electrical apprenticeship is not short of knowledge to help you perform better.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, we have not been able to participate in any extra-curricular activities. When we first started in September, we went on a good 'outward bounds day' which was a good social activity to break the ice. We got to do outdoor activities to push our comfort zone with people we did not know at the time.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Jaguar Land Rover to a friend because they are with an excellent training provider which ensures that you learn a sufficient amount whilst also being paid to learn. Also, I recommend the support that you have when working at Jaguar Land Rover as everyone is always willing to help you progress.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
The advice which I would give to others which are applying to Jaguar Land Rover is to ensure that you are comfortable on the course that you are applying for and that you are willing to learn throughout a 4 year apprenticeship. This is because you need to be dedicated to the work.
