Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I look after Datix, which is a Risk Management System. I ensure that Datix forms function as required and contain all relevant information. I create permissions for users. I provide training for colleagues and help them when they need Datix data. I create reports and dashboards for them so that they can extract reports when required.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy learning new things and applying them in my work and day to day life. Overall, there is a lot of new that I have learnt. Some of it is irrelevant to my work but still a useful knowledge. The program encourages apprentices to think, analyse and make weighed decisions.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Apprenticeship gave me new skills in management and leadership. It was interesting to compare the two and see how different they are. It made me appreciate that leadership and management are two very different functions, however, both of them are very important for organisations. Apprenticeship encouraged me to develop my existing skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme has a good structure. I like the weekly planners that allow me to stay on track. Sometimes it feels that there is no link between readings / units, but then it all comes together. Overall, I am quite happy with the structure. I would probably like more tutorials and a variety of times when we could have them.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
To start with I did not get very much support from my manager. The apprenticeship team did encourage me and helped me a lot with applications and the enrolment. Now I do get support and my manager is very understanding. She is always there. I regularly take time off work to study.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
There are group tutorials that I can book on and attend. If I cannot attend it, there is usually a recorded session that I can watch in my own time. In addition, I can email my tutor to arrange a call. Usually tutors try to accommodate you and help with queries.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Even when subjects are not quire related to my work, it feels that the program is stretching me. It encourages criticality in my thinking, analysing my practices and looking for different solutions. Some material is very relevant to my role, e.g. management, operations, leadership, risk management, quality assurance and quality control.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Before the pandemic, I attended forums and conferences relevant to my role. They are a good opportunity to meet with people from all over the country who know the system. We all have different applications, so events like these give us an opportunity to share ideas that work well and give us a chance to see each other.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation Trust has much emphasis on wellbeing. We are encouraged to look after ourselves and each other. We have various support schemes. For example, we have Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAs) - colleagues can call any of MHFAs if they need to. We have a buddy scheme where we support new starters. And we have a wellbeing festival in summer with great speakers and presenters.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
When applying, read the job specifications and apply them to your skills and experience. Use section "Additional information" to give examples / evidence how you meet the criteria. The more relevant examples you give, the better the chances that your application will be successful. At the interview, listen to the question carefully before you answer. If you do not understand the question, ask to rephrase.
