Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work on fibre circuits and public switched telephone networks within the Bt buildings. This can involve providing new fibre circuits between kit to provide customers with the capacity they require and also maintaining and fixing customers landline circuits if they report and issue with their landline or fixing other types of circuits.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The apprentice programme can be tricky at some points but my colleagues were there to help when I required it and there was also a lot of support from other sources within the company. Overall i have extremely enjoyed the apprenticeship and have been very informative and rewarding to complete.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt many different and new skills as well as developing existing skills. I use my problems solving skills on a daily basis with trying to resolve issues that can arise within tasks. I have also learnt a lot about working on different types of kit that I would have never seen before my apprenticeship.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The apprentice programme was organised and structured well. It could have been a bit better but overall it worked out well for me to work and achieve my qualification and to help complete my apprenticeship. There are a lot of courses required and sometimes trying to get on the correct ones can be tricky.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I received a lot of support from my employer. If I need help or support on anything they will always try their hardest to help me find a solution to a problem. They were always in contact with me to see how things were going and to offer and help where needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I received help from my training provider when I needed it. The courses can be quite intense and complex but the trainers are always happy to go over things again or provide extra help if i required it. They also provide some support material for further advice once the course is completed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification helps alot for me to preform my job better as it gives me a better understanding of how certain types of equipment work and operate so I can maintain it and fix it if required quicker as I know how it works and should preform on a daily basis.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
During the apprenticeship there are a number of networking events that get organised for apprentices to attend if they wish this gives an opertunity for apprentices to talk to other apprentices in the same job. There are also team bonding events with your certain team that are organised by the patch manager for the whole team to participate in.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's is a good apprenticeship to have been apart off. It is a very good company to be apart of expecially with the fibre role out, 5g advancements and the ability to provided many people especially during covid times a way to stay connected with their loved ones through virtual connections
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
Some tips and advice for others applying would be that you are not expected to be an expert on every type of system and piece of kit there is lots of support available for every system and kit there so ask for help and ask questions to gain knowledge from the experts.
