Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I have only been with Arup for a few months now and I have really enjoyed the work. My week usually includes project work and university work one day a week.
I have also enjoyed working alongside other Arup employees and assisting them on project work. I am set a variety of tasks during the day.
I am currently in my third semester of university and have completed the first two semesters earlier this year virtually. I also get help from my mentor at Arup who has assisted me in my studies and learning.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

So far I have enjoyed the Arup apprenticeship program and meeting everyone virtually, I now feel part of the team. I am looking forward to meeting everyone in the office properly without social distancing.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Before joining Arup I had no real knowledge of how to use Revit or Revizto, apart from using CAD during my engineering college course prior to joining Arup.
Over the last few months, I have had the opportunity to use multiple different design computer packages, but I have specifically developed my skills and have enjoyed using and learning Revit and Revizto.

Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I think my apprenticeship is well structured. I attend university on Wednesdays and complete project work during the rest of the weekdays. My workload was limited at the beginning but it is gradually increasing.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I study at university once a week and at the end of each lecture we have the opportunity to ask the lecturer any questions that we are unsure about. There have been times when I haven’t understood certain parts of university work and I have called the lecturer privately.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have been given a mentor at Arup who has been assisting me with my university studies. During the semester I have calls with my mentor regularly, I have the opportunity to ask him any questions I didn’t understand during the lectures.
I also have a buddy who I can ask any general questions.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think I am unable to answer this question as I have only completed one module.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, I have recently been attending the Arup football where 10 -15 Arup employees meet on a Thursday evening and play out our local football astro. We sometimes go for a drink after the game, as Covid restrictions lift I am sure there will be more social activities which I will participate in.
