Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work with qualified Engineers on a day to day basis, they provide me with work which I will then go and produce drawings and models for construction use. I use a variation of software to produce high-quality drawings. While also supporting other Technicians on their own projects that are just starting off.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy working with all the people in the office, they are all very kind and made me feel welcome when I joined straight from secondary school. The networking within the workplace after work hours also allowed me to know everyone better Since then they have supported me through my apprenticeship course and my work during work hours.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt a lot of things while working here. One of the main things I've learnt is how to use a variation of software to produce models and drawings. Other things like the basics of Structural and Civil engineering on my University Course which will improve my understanding at work

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I believe the structure of my course was as organised as possible during the time I was on it. However, it has improved a lot during the last few years when they made a couple of changes to how the course is carried out. Which has made it a more direct route to the end of the course
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have received so much support from my team at work, both for my course and for my tasks at work. Whenever I reach out for support they will always help me in any way they can or guide me to someone who can, taking their own time out of their day to help me out.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
During the lockdown, the support was there for me when asked for but during the first term, I struggled to understand some of the content of the course. I was only able to understand after having a few 1 to 1 calls with my tutor to ask questions that weren't answered in the lectures.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
In my current role on my job, my course isn't providing me with information that can help me perform better in general. However, once my course is complete I will be able to complete my new line of work as an engineer whilst also having the skills and experience I've had over the last few years during my course.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
My company has a wide range of activities that are organised for us to join. For example, football games, cycling groups and other sports as well. We also have a team meetup every now and then at restaurants or other areas for gatherings. They encourage these events often and will even financially support some of them.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Arup to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because Arup is a great place to work for anyone, that provides many opportunities for us to work with people all over the world and maybe get to go there if possible. Noone is mistreated in the office and everyone has a say in something without any judgement from others
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?
For those that would like to apply to Arup, the best advice I could give would be to show us that you can work well in a team and are enthusiastic to work. You can also show that you aren't afraid to ask for help when needed and get the support you need.
