Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work on multiple contracts doing many tasks including checking invoices, assessing applications, weekly costs checks on excel, going to site in order to see progress and gain site experience. I also liaise with clients, colleagues and subcontractors on a daily basis.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy going to site as it lets me understand construction processes and I get to see the progress made on site from start to finish. I also like the fact we have one day a week for University which helps me focus on achieving my required grades.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a lot more terminology used within the construction industry as well as developed a better understanding of construction processes. I have also developed better skills in terms of communication due to frequent communication with clients and colleagues.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is a very well organised programme with a road map for the both the University course and a programme at work for me becoming chartered at the end of my 5 year apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I get a lot of support from both my mentor if I having questions regarding my work. I also get a lot of online training courses through work. They also have the support of the University when it comes to becoming chartered at the end of the course.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have a meeting with a member of the University every 6 months to review my progress and to help find ways to offer support if required.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Through university I gain a better understanding of construction processes and terminology which helps me in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

They are plenty of different groups the get involved in throughout the company from LGBTQ to support with mental health. I get involved with a 5 a side group for my local office.
You also have to do one day a year of volunteering towards the community.

ENGIE provides lots of support to its staff. There is also many of ways you can get involved within the company through groups, surveys and potential other job roles.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Equans UK & Ireland?
I would recommend having experience working and that you have the desire to work and progress. I would also recommend working hard during GCSE's and A-Levels to ensure that you have the sufficient grades for the application process.
