Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role involved rotating around the business in tax, audit and consulting. Having specialised in audit, my day to day role now includes in-charging audits (completing, delegating and organising work on audit jobs) and also includes internal and external communications with colleagues and clients. I currently perform this role in public sector (NHS, higher education, central government)
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The programme is very varied and gave me the opportunity to rotate around the business before specialising in an area. It also gave me the knowledge and experience I needed to go on to choose my specialised area and continue with the relevant professional qualification. I have enjoyed the programme thoroughly, the only issue I have ever had is the communications with BPP and KPMG being inconsistent at times leading to confusion around course and exam dates.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt a number of new skills including leadership and professional communication. I have developed my skills in prioritisation and managing a number of tasks at one time, as well as juggling study and work. I have learnt a number of new technical skills including auditing, Microsoft and accountancy.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is very structured with set timelines in place, including level 3 AAT in the first year, level 4 AAT in the second year and level 7 ACA in the remaining 3 years. The rotations are 6 months so very structured and there is also the flexibility to complete standard or fast track to complete the programme quicker.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
There are a number of support systems in place for exams, work and any other worries you may have. Separate teams are in place both centrally and in your placement team if any support is required. There is also a specific BPP KPMG team who are able to help with study related support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
There is a specific KPMG BPP team in place for support when working towards the qualifications. Tutors are also readily available to ask questions as and when required. At times it can feel like you are not as supported when doing self study, however, there are teams in place to reach out to if you did need extra support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualifications are extremely relevant to the role and also help you to progress into having more responsibilities. Especially at ACA level, the studies become more relevant and aid in technical knowledge whilst on audits as well as professional communication skills with audited entities. Overall, the qualification definitely aids better performance in the role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are lots of extra curricular activities including a number of different networks, social committees within teams and also within the central apprenticeship team and other social activities such as sports clubs. In teams there are also social events run regularly, including usual Christmas parties and other events throughout the year.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
Yes
Why?
KPMG has opened a lot of opportunities for me to decide what I wanted to do when I left school (when I was completely unsure after sixth form) and has also helped me to significantly develop professionally. I have been able to gain qualifications without any student debt and the support from KPMG throughout has been great.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
