Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As a general management apprentice my daily tasks depend entirely on the placement I'm in. In an office placement my day would consist of checking emails and teams and then working on my projects to meet the objectives set by my placement manager. I will also support new apprentices and the wider general management scheme across my apprenticeship.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship the ability to work whilst also furthering my education is brilliant. The company culture is amazing within TfL and flexible working has been encouraged especially throughout the pandemic. The apprenticeship exceeded my expectations and I look forward to the coming years. My colleagues are extremely supportive which makes the apprenticeship all the more enjoyable.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt many new skills such as presenting virtually, and I have also further developed many of my existing skills such as time management and organisation. In the university portion of my apprenticeship I have learnt how to conduct research and how to financially analyse a business. These skills learnt have effectively upskilled me and I use many of them on a daily basis.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is structured extremely well. My induction process was very smooth despite being completely virtual due to the pandemic. I have many people who support me in the work and education parts of my apprenticeship. My apprenticeship sees me rotate in different parts of the business across the 4 years.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My placement managers are extremely helpful and understanding. I also have a sponsor who supports and mentors me with everything from wellbeing to university. I also have easy access to counselling and support from both university and TfL should I need it. The overall general attitude towards supporting me is extremely positive as there are many people I can rely on.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I am supported by my training provider through experienced lecturers at university. I am also supported by a university mentor. I know who to contact should I have any problems whilst working towards my degree. The general attitude towards supporting me is very good and I really enjoy the university portion of my apprenticeship.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

There have been many instances of crossover in my apprenticeship so far. Skills learnt at university I have applied during work, this is also true for skills I have learnt at work that I have later applied in my university assignments and projects. So it is safe to say that my qualification helps me to perform better in my role. Ultimately, through work on my qualification I feel I am more knowledgeable about my role and how to excel at it.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There many extra-curricular activities that I can get involved in at TfL. There are clubs and sport teams including a football league and a cricket league to name a few! There are many social events available to me as an apprentice such as days out at golf putting ranges. There is also a range of voluntary events that I'm able to participate in such as school visits and career fairs.

Why?
They are an incredible company to work for. They are extremely supportive and flexible when it comes to working. The company culture is very positive and welcoming. There are plenty of opportunities when it comes to training, extra curricular activities and social events. There is lots of room to grow and develop within TfL.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Transport for London?
Make sure you come across as a team player but also as a leader. Confidence is always key so make sure to have lots of it. In the interviews try to use the STAR approach when giving examples of your previous work and successes. Try your hardest in any assessments and make sure your CV contains no errors.
