Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I help to support my team in different ways they require me. I help to make documentation and I am an important step in creating Evidence of Covers. I am also given projects to complete for example a database with all our clients on and how much business we cede to each.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
My program was good overall. There were many good tasks that I completed along with the other apprentices as part of the scheme. Obviously about half way through the experience dropped a little as because of Covid we were no longer allowed to meet in person so it makes it a lot harder.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes for sure. From leaving school it was a big transition into the business world and I have now learned to be more professional. I have learned so many new things about Reinsurance that I had no idea about before. My time management, team work and work rate have also improved.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Yeah I think it is well designed. There is constant positive support and you can really tell that Aon are investing into you and hoping that you stay. There are a lot of meetings and calls from senior colleagues who have given us good talks and helped give us a better insight into the company
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive constant support. Especially from my team. I feel as though I was quite lucky to be put into a smaller team as I have constant training from my team in all different formats to improve my reinsurance knowledge. I feel as though I am given a lot of time by people who will explain anything I'm unsure from.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I have monthly meetings with my coach to go through anything I'm unsure of. I also complete on and off the job training and note it down to show my coach. This is to show my coach that I am getting enough training. They also provide training before my exams.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
My qualifications have taught me some important things about reinsurance that I can then use in conversations with my team or understand more when I am on different calls. it also means I am able to do different types of work that I would otherwise not be able to complete.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes there are a lot of networking events that I have been to however since Covid this has been harder but there have been some over Webex. At Aon there is a big focus on the Next Gen which is everyone under 35 years old and helps to connect everyone.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
Yes
Why?
i would recommend because I believe it is a good industry to be in if you enjoy face to face and social encounters. Aon are the leading broker in the business so I would recommend it because there isnt a better place to go in terms of business performance. I also think the culture at Aon is very attractive.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
I would say to try and practice for interviews as this is an important part of getting into the business. there is also the day where you go into the office to work with other contenders and there are team exercises where you need to try and stand out from others.
