Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I lead a team of 50 warehouse operatives. We process returns from our customers either through online return via courier or via the store network. I am responsible for the productivity within my team as well as their HR requirements. I am tasked to reach KPI's within the department around timescales and costs
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy it as I am revisiting areas of leadership development that I feel was left behind in my previous role, so I feel that spending time refreshing in those areas is very important in keeping me fresh and leading my team effectively. I am also spending time developing myself, which is something I have been poor at previously

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I am still very much finding my feet within this role. In terms of people management, I have quite a lot of experience in that area. Technically and process within the area is still an area I need to develop in as I feel that I am not up to scratch in that department

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
It is very well organised. The structure is clear and my activities are set out with lots of notice, so I can plan and prepare for them. The tasks/topics stay grouped together and make sense to me. I am able to upload my activities and leave messages for my course tutor and we can converse about the task
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I am encouraged to make time for my apprenticeship and I am asked about it and how it is going on a monthly basis. I am guilty of not spending enough on the job time on it and this is down to me not managing y time well enough in the beginning
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I feel very supported by both the Emma's I have been in contact with. I know if one isnt available, I can speak to the other one. If I have a question, they are quick to answer this via email. I have had 2 catch up calls with Emma Dibble, who checks how I am getting on
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It keeps my mind fresh and my development at the forefront of my role. I have always put my development at the bottom of my list of work priorities and by doing this, especially in my first 12 months with Dixon's, keeps me on my toes and spending equal time developing my people as well as me
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Not that I am aware of. Due to the pandemic, we are not able to mix as a team outside of work or work hours. This is something we want to start doing once restrictions lift and it is something the team are keen to do. I think having a campus football team wold be a fab idea

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Dixons Carphone to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because, I feel as an employer and a company, very little is known about them. I didn't realise that the DC existed or how much goes on behind the scenes. Dixon's seems like a great employer and demonstrates how much they care about their people and are constantly striving for excellence with their customers as well as their people
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Dixons Carphone?
To really research and find out exactly what they do as a company because until you start to work there, you really dont realise the scale of the business and how much it achieves, especially during peak. They have lots of different roles available, so if working in a warehouse isnt for you, then look into stores, learning and development, repairs. The list is endless
