Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Jointing cables on poles and in boxes but however I’m based in Newbury and they don’t need jointers so I’m just doing cabling work underground for now
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I enjoy it when my training is in Crawley as the atmosphere is much calmer and the training centre is 100x better as in Croydon it’s run down and it’s a terrible hotel which puts u in a mood each day

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Learnt how to do everything safely like ladders and gas testing

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
Mine personally has been organised very well however I know a few people on the same course have been told so many different things it’s painful
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My manager is very supportive he always reply’s when I message him or need anything and the trainers have all been a good laugh
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Openreach do all of it themselves so they support us with a lot of equipment and vehicles however the training managers do seem to leave it to the trainers and not really organise much for example I was meant to get a van on week 1, it’s now week 5
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
A lot better, I didn’t know anything about fibre networks so I needed to be taught from the ground up
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
No not to my knowledge, I really would love a football team or something against different areas

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It’s a solid company for a good career and lots of growth
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
Expect the unexpected, nobody knew what roles or how long the training was until middle of week 1
