Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role is to connect people to the network on fibre internet. I connect from a thing called a csp that could be underground or at the top of a pole. Run the cable from there to the property and terminate at a csp do a speed check and make sure the customer is happy
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
At the moment I’m really enjoying my experience with openreach. It seems to me that they want the best for there employees and the training I have been provided has been second to none. Every single instructor at Bolton had been great and they wanted all of my class to succeed

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes I have learned to splice fibre with a fibre splicing machine also I have learned how to climb a pole safely with a method called tetra. These are all new skills that I have been taught by trainers from the Bolton training school that openreach run in Bolton Manchester

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I think that it was structured really well but some parts of the course could have been structured so that you cover more things in one lesson. Ie pole steps and ladders could have been incorporated into the drip wire course and there for dropped a few days of training
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I think I will and have received as much support as needed. Anything that I have asked has not only been answered but it has been thourally answered. Also I have been led to believe that any extra trading I want will be given to me on request no questions asked
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Well to be completely honest I’ve only just started with openreach as my new employee. But the same again I have been led to believe that there is as much support and training as needed for me when I need it. Overall I would say that I am with a great supportive company
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Like I have previously stated all the training and support that I need or is needed is provided to me by openreach. I could not carry out my role if it was not for openreach and there exemplary trading schools. I attended Bolton but can only imagine I would have had the same experience at any other
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Well as far as I’m aware there is not any extra curricular activity’s. I could be wrong but like I’ve said not that I’m aware of. Although on my patch I’m aware of out of work activities are organised like paint balling for team building I should imagine

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend openreach because from my experiences so far they seem to be a great company to work for also they seem like they truly have there staffs best interest at heart weather it be from health and safety to pension contributions to there share schemes it’s all geared towards there work force
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
My main tips would be do not apply if you are scared of height and don’t like working out in the open. But if this doesn’t bother you and you want to be your own boss but with the benefits of holidays and a pension scheme then apply
