Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Currently I am working on HS2, where I am mainly shadowing the other engineers on site. This not only helps me to achieve some of my goals but also allows me to see what happens around the site. I help out and even take over some of jobs where it is possible.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I am currently enjoy the programme and all of the new skills I am learning. I think it will continue to get more enjoyable as I am given more responsibility and jobs to do. This takes time as you need to learn the correct way to do these jobs first.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learned a lot of new skills including how to set out/ survey. I have also been able to develop my existing skills through teamwork and communication. This is very important with the amount of people on site to be able to talk to them and work with others effectively.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is well structured with the college blocks being placed in-between the site placements. This does mean quick turn arounds for the KSB and some of the assignments but I think it works well. The communication when on site is the most important thing to make sure that you let them know what experience you need to be getting.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I receive a good amount of support from my employer. They are helpful when there are problems and give update and meetings when there are things to discuss. They also offer a good line of communication through emails and other calls if this is needed throughout. I think if there were any problems they would be able to help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
the support from the training provider is very good. There are monthly meetings set up to discuss what has been happening. These can be looking through the submission or talking about what needs to be completed. Again it is important to use this time to get the support if there are any problems.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I think that some of the knowledge can be passed along through my role. It is important to know about the health and safety on site as this can help to keep you safe. The qualification helps to give a base line on which you can develop in the job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Currently during the pandemic there has been less of these available. However, there are discussions about starting these activities up again and having people get involved. It will be good to see what is to come in the future. I think there will be lots of opportunity to get involved.
