Corporate Banking Summer Analyst Review

As a Summer Intern, your role is to be available as a resource to other bankers which means asking for work whenever you have some availability. Due to the fact that Corporate Banking is so multi-faceted, the day-to-day roles were never similar. Just to list some of work expected from a CB Summer Intern would include: updating company spreads and models, creating company/industry overviews for potential clients, assisting on team initiatives and filling out credit memos for new/existing clients.

There is a lot of responsibility delegated to Summer Interns in how the work you produce can be seen by senior staff and even used for clients, meaning that there is an expectation to deliver high-quality work. Some of the tasks that you will perform can be of the nature of a role expected from a full-time however, your responsibilities will likely change depending on the perception of your work quality.

- Industry knowledge/awareness
- Improved attention to detail
- Sourcing information (particularly hard for private companies)

You have available resources such as your staffer, buddy and other analysts to ask questions to whenever stuck on a task or for a personal inquiry,

Because my placement was predominately virtual, my experience of the company culture was limited but it was definitely a friendly environment that came across as inviting. Despite only being in a 10-week placement, they make an effort to include Summer Interns and treat you like a full-time worker.

The internship was a learning experience everyday. Whether I was learning completely new tasks/processes or doing something I thought seemed familiar, I was taught new methods of completing jobs. This made me more efficient and detail-orientated from observing senior colleagues and responding to feedback.
