Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Surveying with different types of equipment, Setting out, CAD drawings, problem solving, quantity and volume required calculations, safety committee meetings, keeping records, inductions for new personnel onsite, meetings with engineers and operatives.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Starting with BAM especially when coming from a completely different line of work has been a great experience with all the people I meet willing to listen and answer questions thoroughly, teaching me new things whilst making me feel really comfortable in a new environment.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

New skills - CAD, Surveying with a variety of equipment, Quality checks, general understanding of how sites operate.

Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Very structured, working onsite has its own structure depending on the jobs that need to be completed. College are in contact and keep me informed of when college blocks will be starting whilst tracking my progress and any issues I may have.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Loads of support from BAM people onsite and even a mentor to have a less formal relationship with where I can ask questions. i have easy access to expenses systems etc and any questions i have my colleagues are more than happy to help
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
College meetings are in 1-2 month intervals to track your progress and inform you and your line manager of evidence that is required. they meet with you and your employers and when Covid is less dangerous visit sites to see where you could improve in relation to evidence required.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification gives you loads of information on sites almost from an outside view, then actually going onto sites makes you really realize just how much you've learnt when you experience processes in real life and have the opportunity to be part of projects .
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Due to Covid everything has been limited to online but from apprentices I've met there are sports teams to get involved in whilst in Leeds, but for now there are online events that they inform you of verbally or via email

Why?
In my honest opinion I couldn't ask for much more support from BAM or Leeds college of building they really allow you to enjoy the experience whilst learning and staying on top of all the requirements needed to gain the qualification.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
Be open to meeting new people, experiencing new things and learning loads because there will be a lot of it. The process will be really challenging and exciting!
