Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

It involves a mixture of office work and site work, including the setting out of construction work, making sure on-site operatives adhere to safe working practices and have the relevant information to carry out construction work. I also undertake quality and health and safety checks daily and complete daily updates.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The programme so far has offered me lots of opportunities which I and they feel are relevant for me professional development. All opportunities have been extremely beneficial and I have thoroughly enjoyed immersing myself in my role as an engineer and have enjoyed taking on new challenges and new responsibilities.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt lots of new skills whilst strengthening existing skills especially those that I consider my weakest. These include the ability to multi task whilst prioritising work in order to meet deadlines which is something I would consider myself to be particularly weak on but I am now improving.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme that I am going through is extremely well organised and structured. Bam Nuttall detail the routes available to you as and engineer and make it clear how to progress through your professional career whilst offering as much training, support, studying opportunities and mentorship. Bam Nuttall provide constant reassurance.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer offers a cornucopia of support and reassurance to their employees. Bam Nuttall have made themselves an extremely accessible source of comfort and guidance by providing information and holding regular events and meetings relating to sensitive topics and the inclusion of moral and ethnic minority groups such as LGBTQ+.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive plenty of support during my college blocks at Leeds College of Building and am made feel comfortable and confident during my studies. All members of staff that work for my training provider are extremely friendly and down to earth which makes it really easy to voice my queries.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification that I am studying for highlights and details the key principles and areas of construction that are directly and indirectly related to my job role as a civil engineer. The key principles and areas that I am studying interest and further motivate as an employee to learn more.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Bam Nuttall provides all employees with extra-curricular activities such as volunteering opportunities for charities local to their sites, online quizzes on Microsoft Teams and classes which deliver information on sensitive topics such as LGBTQ+. My training provider also provides the same level of extra-curricular activities for everyone to get involved.

Why?
As mentioned throughout this review Bam Nuttall are extremely invested in their employees and provide lots of support and training opportunities to for their employees. Also the training and development opportunities are in the best interest of professional development. They also make you feel comfortable and valued as an employee.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
For anybody applying to Bam I would recommend carrying lots of research about the company, the structure of the programmes they offer and any qualifications that might interest them. Also research the projects that Bam are involved in to familiarize yourself with the type of work Bam are involved in.
