Typical of the industry, as there is a strict hierarchy and I was the most junior in the team, I was given the least amount of responsibility. This isn't necessarily a negative, but rather reflective of the industry as a whole. It is unlikely that you'll be given much responsibility if you intern in investment banking. Elite boutiques by nature give you more responsibility than bulge brackets like Citi.

Developed skills: MS office suite (Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), financial analysis, commercial awareness, communication, teamwork, time management, attention to detail and research skills

There were people that I could always reach out to and when working in the office they would come by my desk and check in with how I'm progressing. However, at times I was given tasks without guidance or explanation with regards to the wider context of what I'm doing which would have been beneficial. I'm understanding that at these times, colleagues were busy but taking the time to run through exactly what they want would have helped both of us progress.

Everyone was friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere reflected that. The company culture, specifically in my team also, was unexpectedly geared towards wellbeing with protected weekends which was respected and I really appreciated that. There were more social events than expected organised throughout which I enjoyed.
However, also embedded within the industry is a lack of diversity and as such the diversity initiatives at Citi could be strengthened. It was difficult because as a diverse candidate, I felt like, and ended up, not being myself around my team which impacted my performance - more support for new hires would be really beneficial here if you want to improve your diversity.

I enjoyed the work to some extent and from just a week of working with my team I could tell that they're all intelligent and driven individuals that I could learn a lot from which was good. In this regard it met my expectations.
I was unsure of what to expect regarding the culture, and, as touched on at an earlier point in this survey, the major improvement point in my view would be the diversity and inclusivity of the culture.
