Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Day to day my role involves looking at different cost aspects of the project I am working on. Depending on the stage of the project this will determine the different types of cost I will be looking at. Running packages on the job, ensuring all variations are being priced and all contractors being paid on time.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
As an overall I enjoy the programme very much so, there are challenging days but there is always a way to get through the problem, this is through the help of my colleagues at Mace. I have learnt so much in my time at Mace and really enjoy the programme and its opportunities.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
My confidence has grown massively. Mace have given me the tools to learn and become knowledgeable in the industry which in turn has given me a massive confidence boost. This has meant my communication skills have grown as I am a lot more comfortable speaking to all different stakeholders within the industry.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The training programme set out by Mace is really well organised, we have a training schedule sent out to us before the start of the academic calendar that allows us to be prepared for it. We start off with Level 1 or part 1 training sessions that then progress onto level 2 or part two that are more detailed.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive massive amounts of support from my employer, my line manager will always help if free or will make time in the diary to go through any questions, issues or problems I have so the support received is very good. Mace also encourage all apprentices to speak to one another to see if anyone else has the same questions and so you dont feel left out.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The training provider do their best to help us, as it is only a day release it can be harder at times to ask all the questions wanted during the lectures as we only have one day allocated to get through all lectures but you are able to email them and ask for help also.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
the qualification helps as it is related to my day to day work, the legal side of the construction industry is so broad so being taught it in my qualification can really help to assist me when it comes up in my daily role, so overall it does help a fair bit.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes there are many networking events put on at Mace, this can be through the apprenticeship scheme, events that are put on by the group and also volunteering days that are set up through mace that allows you to network and collaborate while helping other people.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Mace to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have enjoy myself during my time at mace, they have supported my massively through the training they put on. I have not come across a single employee who wont give you their time to help and for me being an apprentice I find it so important that the culture within Mace is a helpful one.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mace?
Be confident, do your background research into the company to understand the different sectors within the business. Mace wont expect you to know everything but they will expect effort to be put into knowing the business and what it stands for. a little read on the business strategy would not go a miss.
