Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
The role definitely changes depending which department you are in. In store you could be taking part in an inventory count or working stock. In HR I worked on projects to raise money for the NSPCC amongst many others. It varies a lot week to week.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes definitely. While a lot is expected of you, I always felt supported and appreciated for my work. For example, during my time in sales I worked as a shift manager which meant I was responsible for managing tills, the safe and staff breaks.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
At Lidl you’re given a lot of responsibility so the opportunity to develop leadership and teamwork skills is always there. I’ve been able to improve my presentation skills through presenting to the senior team also.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I always felt supported by my training consultant, area manager and the other graduates. There are regular check ins with your line managers but it is also your responsibility to voice when you need extra support.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
From my first interview to finishing my placement I've always felt welcome. My store, office and warehouse teams have always been friendly and eager to teach me about their roles.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement with Lidl. The rotational aspect of the scheme allowed me to see multiple different areas of the business. I have also been lucky enough to take part in several projects within my departments and Head Office. I would recommend the placement and graduate scheme to others.
