Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work as a secretary to the Trustee of around 8 different pension schemes. My day to day tasks are to liaise with the Trustees and other parties involved in the running of the pension scheme. I also set up the quarterly meetings and do the governance tasks on behalf of the trustee, e.g scheme return.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the programme as I like working within a team and speaking to clients. The culture of the company is also very inclusive and is aimed towards helping me develop. However there are also downsides but these are things that come with any job. Such as working full time and being busy/stressed.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learned a few skills, such as communication, time management and efficiency. I would say I already held these skills but when I started working they became a lot more important. I have learned this skills on the job as it is hard to teach them and are learned through experience.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is well structured, although this has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as it has set a few things back for me. Although I have been supported fully throughout this. I would say however it is sometimes unclear on the timelines and when the apprenticeship will be finished. Although this was also affected by the pandemic.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my employer, this is due to the culture of the company. Everyone is always willing to answer any questions and offer support where they can. I also receive a lot of support from my manager who aids me in my career and progression.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive a lot of support from my tutor and we have monthly calls to go over my progress in the apprenticeship, they also give training sessions before exams. My tutor also gives lots of support on the tasks I need to complete by giving examples and talking me through it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The learning I do for my qualification helps me in my role as the exams I am doing are about pensions and so is my job. This also works the other way round, as on the job I can learn things which will also help towards my qualification. In the tasks and the exams.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are a lot of extra curricular activities that I can get involved in with work, this includes football every Tuesday. There are also often different social events. There is also volunteering you can do for charities, and I also just participated in a campaign for a charity to help them raise money.

Why?
I would recommend Aon to a friend, because the experience I have when working here has been good. Whilst feeling well supported in what I do I also feel that I am strongly being pushed to further my career by other employees, making the office space not hostile at all and very friendly instead.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
I would say that the best thing to do is to get stuck into as many things as possible, as there are an unlimited amount of opportunities available but you just need to ask about them and go for them. I would also say to be confident in yourself and ask as many questions as possible.
