Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role is Front of House Team Member and my day to day responsibilities involve serving food and drink and customer service. I have to make sure I create a welcoming environment that will ensure guest satisfaction and encourage further visits whilst also offering good and fast and also attentive service.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme because it is giving me the opportunities to further develop my knowledge of the business side of the hospitality industry and I am also learning many things I would not be able to learn alone or on the job. I think the course is interesting and I enjoy it.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have developed my confidence and customer service skills whilst also learning new skills on the job. I have had partial training in shutting down the tills, cash up and doing a banking. My team work skills have also been challenged and improved along with my time management skills due to the fast paced environment.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
My programme is very organised with set appointments and tasks that are being filtered through at a steady pace. It is fully structured so that you can learn set information every month whilst also recapping on call to retain everything you have learnt. Overall it is easy to follow and well structured.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive as much support as needed. We can always go and ask for explanations or further advice on any work. Support is freely offered and we are encouraged to ask rather than just guess and make mistakes. Overall, my employer is fully supportive and always on hand to help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
As above I receive as much support as needed. There is always time at the end of each sessions to recap, talk and ask any questions if needed. I'm also encouraged to email if I have any questions or call at any time for support or advice or if im struggling with the work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I believe that the more I learn, the better I perform at work. I have gained confidence and feel more able to handle certain situations due to increased knowledge from my course. As each month passes, I learn more and gain more confidence when asked questions or if im faced with a certain issue.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
As far as I'm aware (possibly due to Covid), there are currently no social activities or sports teams available at work. I know there used to be trips every year to a chosen place and there used to be some form of social club after work on Sunday nights,

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Marstons to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Marston's is a fair and safe environment whether it be for a first job or a last. There are always opportunities to further learn certain skills either through an apprenticeship program or a promotion within the pub team. It is also a great place to start learning basic skills such as confidence and team work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Marstons?
Always to remember that one bad day isn't the end of the world. The best thing to do is to keep a clear and calm head and try to remain as confidence, professional and friendly as possible. Always service with a smile and to keep learning and be open to new ideas.
