Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a bar supervisor, I am able to open and close the pub. I manage shifts and ensure that every customer receives the best possible service. I am also able to complete back office work such as the banking and stock takes. Pour many pints every shift for the customers.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have enjoyed completing my apprenticeship and have built a strong relationship with my trainer. It has been interesting to learn about the ins and outs of running this type of establishment and I feel that it will really help me in my future to pursue a hospitality management career.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have been able to develop my customer service skills as well as my communication skills. Doing this job has made me understand how much work goes into running a bar, but I have gained many management skills during my time here. I have become more organised as a person.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My apprenticeship has been very well organised since I have started it. I have a monthly call where we go over any work that I have completed in that time and we have a catch up about how I have been feeling and if there is anything I have struggled with.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is aware of my apprenticeship but I don’t often ask for any support. I know that if I needed any help then it would be provided but to this point I’ve not had to ask for help. I do have training hours provided if I require them.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my training provider in order to gain my final qualification. I am aware that if I do require any additional help then I can ask for that and it will be provided to me as soon as they are able to do so.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Due to me already working the job role that my apprenticeship is based on, I have not noticed any massive changes in the way I work whilst on the job. Sometimes I do notice little things such as my management skills have improved as well as my communication skills overall.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are no extra curricular activities that I am able to get involved in. However, we are provided the opportunity to go on training courses and work towards gaining our personal license. So far I have only completed my cellar management course due to covid restrictions but I am hoping to do more.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Marstons to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Overall Marstons are a good company to work for. They keep in contact with you via email which update you on any changes in your workplace or the company as a whole. They also pay well and accordingly for the job role in which you work as. I do recommend.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Marstons?
Just to be themselves when going for job interviews as hospitality can be a less formal industry to work in than many others. There is a chance of progression and I would definitely recommend that anyone wanting to work for marstons looks into the possibility of doing further courses and training.
