Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
Within the team, I will be assigned particular balances within the client's accounts (e.g. Cash, Debtors, Revenue etc.), to test and ensure they show a true and fair view in the company's financial statements.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
However, I have made great friends with the other people in my year group, and everybody at the firm is very nice.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have also had opportunity to develope communication, team working, leadership, presenting skills etc.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?
You have bookings of 'college' study for exams, and then client work is booked into your schedule around that, and all booking are made long in advance (about a year).
How much support do you receive from your employer?
Before you even join, you are assigned a 'Buddy', being somebody in the year above you in your current programme, and you can ask them any questions that you have about the programme and use them as a point of contact when you join.
You're also assigned a 'Coach', who is a Manager in your office who you have regular catch ups with, and you can raise any problems that you have with your portfolio, workload, exams, wellbeing etc.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
Your Deloitte Coach also joins every other meeting with the Talent Coach.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
You can organise social activities, run events for the new joiners when the next intake start, take part in recruitment events with schools/universities.
There are of course many social events to take part in too.
Recommendations & Advice
Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
Why?
Everyone that they hire is so friendly and nice, so I've met lots of great people.
It's also definitely worth it for the qualification, as you're extremely employable once you've qualified at a top Accounting firm.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
From new joiners, they're looking for soft skills just as much/even more than actual, relevant experience/knowledge, so before the interview think of examples in previous jobs/uni where you've demonstrated team working, working under pressure, leadership, problem solving, communication etc.
Try applying for some of the work experience schemes before applying for the graduate scheme, as these can fast track you onto the grad scheme before you've even left university.
