Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I complete parts of statutory audits that are required by various companies. I have to study documents, speak to Clients to gain information and perform tests on various parts of the financial statements. I am in charge of my own workload and my own time, with guidance provided from Seniors.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my programme. The work is varied, and training is completed in blocks which last 1-2 weeks in length. This means that I am never bored, as the work and tasks required are always changing. I also receive training and coaching from Seniors, who are 1-2 years ahead in their programme, so they understand what challenges you are facing perfectly.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have expanded my Excel skills and been trained to use new data analytics software programmes. I have received specific training with regards to audit and accountancy, which includes technical training and wider understanding of processes. Technical training covers areas such as general accounting and the reason for performing specific tests.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is very well organised and structured. We have a programme of college learning, which is completed in blocks. We work on Client work in blocks between college bookings. We also have the support of an Apprenticeship tutor, who is available to ask questions, and who ensures that you are completing the adequate training etc.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my employer. The majority of employees are required to complete the same programme, and so a support network is built up to include those who are at the same level as you, and include several people at various stages of the programme. I receive set time to complete my technical training.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive set time in my schedule to attend training at college, which has been virtual during the pandemic. Each subject has a specific tutor provided by Kaplan, and there is also a specific work team to contact if there are any further issues. Everyone in the business is aware of the importance of exams, which helps.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Despite doing an accounting degree, I am not sure that I could complete my role effectively without the additional training which I have received. Due to the blocks spent on Client work, I get ample time to put the theory into practise, and this in turn benefits the learning experience.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Networking is highly encouraged at PwC. Despite the lockdown, and working from home, there have been numerous socials, held virtually of course. This has been an amazing way to meet people, particularly partners etc. As lockdown eases, these socials will turn into events which are non-virtual. These normally include parties, sports day and an away day.

Why?
The people are amazing! They are friendly and helpful and, as almost everyone you work with will have completed the same programme as you, you feel supported and understood. There are lots of opportunities, including the possibility of secondments into different areas, and the work is varied and interesting. The programme is well structured and very organised.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
Be yourself during the application process. PwC welcome diversity and there are many schemes in place to promote flexibility. So far, everyone that I have worked with has been understanding of my personal situation. The work is hard and the hours can be long, there is occasionally some pressure, however you are supported throughout this.
