Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a degree student nurse apprentice and I study for 37.5 hours a week and I work on placement 37.5 hours a week. This is done by study blocks and work blocks and is identical to the BSC non apprentice course which I really like. The course is fantastic and I love it!

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I absolutely love this programme, the staff at NTU are incredible and so supportive despite the challenges covid has thrown at everyone. I would and will always recommend this course to my friends and peers and i think its an excellent way to widen the nhs work force for the future.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt many skills so far, learning lots on theory and then being able to put them skills into practice on placement has been so beneficial. The mixture of both is so beneficial in nursing and I feel this apprenticeship has helped me grow into a confident student professional.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

It has had its challenges with covid but overall the lecturers and amazing staff have carried this course to be the great course it is today. Which is organised and structured with amazing, helpful and beneficial modules to help us in our journey towards becoming registered nurses in the future.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

The tam at NUH have been fantastic and they have offered lots of group meetings, one to ones and many other ways of supporting us. If the apprentices ever need anything we all would feel confident in approaching our employer for support and any guidance we may require tog et us through the course.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The lecturers and amazing staff have carried and support all students through the tough covid times and with amazing, helpful and beneficial modules to help us in our journey towards becoming registered nurses in the future. I have every confidence they wil help us throughout our whole time here and i look forward to it.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

From coming from an auxillary nurse position into adult nursing i feel the skills we have learnt so far has built upon any previous skills and w ehave been able to give back any skills we also already had. This course has helped me to see the role of a nurse in a different way and makes me excited to qualify!

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are so many things we can get involved with including the nursing society, any seminars are shared with us via the royal college of nursing and we always have opportunity to do more including voluntary positions and any sports we may be interested in to enhance our uni experience.

Would you recommend Nottingham Trent University to a friend?

Why?

Nottingham Trent has an excellent reputation and that shines through in the teaching and resources provided. It has shown resillience through covid and made sure students experiences are as not affected by such a thing. NTU makes me feekl proud to be a part of it and I will always be forever grateful that this course has become available.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nottingham Trent University?

I would say let your passion and interests shine through. I would tell them to demonstrate how their work and personal experiences make them who they are today and how these will help in academic studies. I would say dont be afraid to be yourself and let your talent shine through on your application.
